The Unexpected Meeting with the Newly Crowned Prince: One of the most indelible memories of my trip was the unexpected encounter with the newly crowned prince of Bhutan. It was a serendipitous moment that left me awestruck. I was so awestruck that when I was approached by the newly crowned king and asked, “How are you enjoying Bhutan?” all that I could muster was “it’s a beautiful country.” Respecting His Highness’ privacy, I did not ask to take a picture, but that memory is ingrained in my head, and I do have the commemorative coin as a souvenir. The prince’s humility and grace, along with the warmth of the Bhutanese people, made this meeting even more memorable. Their approach to royalty is unlike anything I had ever seen – a genuine connection between the monarchy and the people.

Creating Unique Bhutanese Stamps:

One of the most unique experiences during my trip was the opportunity to create my own Bhutanese uncut stamps. To commemorate the royal coronation, the Bhutanese government allowed visitors like me to submit our passport photos to be featured on these special stamps. This personalized souvenir has become one of the cherished treasures in my travel collection, serving as a constant reminder of my Bhutanese adventure.

A 12-Day Journey from Paro to Bumthang:

My journey took me through breathtaking landscapes and enchanting villages, spanning 12 unforgettable days. Starting in Paro, I ventured further into the heart of Bhutan, ultimately reaching Bumthang. The journey was a feast for the senses, with every twist and turn revealing pristine natural beauty and the rich cultural heritage of the Bhutanese people.

Traditions and Archery:

Bhutan’s reverence for tradition is evident in every aspect of life. The national sport, archery, is not just a competition but a celebration of heritage. I had the privilege of watching locals participate in archery tournaments, and their skill and camaraderie were truly inspiring. It was a glimpse into the heart of Bhutan, where tradition and modernity coexist harmoniously.

Perched precariously on the edge of a cliff, this sacred site is an arduous trek but offers breathtaking views of the Paro valley below. The sense of accomplishment and the sheer beauty of the monastery make the journey to Tiger’s Nest an unforgettable experience.
